The price for Kurt Cobain’s childhood home on East First Street in Aberdeen, originally listed at $500,000 in September 2013, was reduced to $400,000 on Tuesday.
Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor, put the house at 1210 E. First St. on the market nearly a year and a half ago. O’Connor now lives in West Hollywood. Nancy Taylor of Aberdeen Realty, the company managing the sale, said the price was dropped to $400,000 on Tuesday.
Talyor said the decision to bring the price down was “a decision that the family made,” adding that she couldn’t elaborate.
The home is a one-and-a-half story, traditional-style home with four bedrooms and one bath. The Grays Harbor County Assessor’s Office has the property assessed at $59,115.
Cobain spent some of his early childhood in the home before moving with his father to Montesano. He then moved back for several years as a teenager. Cobain’s graffiti remains on the walls of his upstairs bedroom.
Portland-based journalist Jaime Dunkle had set out to raise funds to purchase the home with the intention of making it a museum, setting up a GoFundMe crowd-sourcing page a year ago. As of Wednesday, the page had only raised $2,285 of the $700,000 goal.
