Aberdeen Police investigating drive-by shooting that took place on Monday night

Aberdeen Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that targeted an unoccupied vehicle on Monday night, said Aberdeen Police Capt. John Green.

Green said around 10 p.m. on Monday night there was a report of a 1998 Honda Accord being struck with multiple bullets by someone with a large caliber firearm in a light silver, older-style Dodge Charger or Avenger in the parking lot in front of 1735 S. Boone St. Green said the suspect’s vehicle was last seen leaving on South Boone Street toward Westport.

Multiple witnesses saw the shooting, and the driver was described to police as a white male in his mid-20s with possibly blonde hair and facial hair and a larger build. Police were not able to obtain a license plate number from the suspect’s vehicle.

Green said the motive for the crime is unknown and added that it’s possible the shooter targeted the wrong car. The resident who the vehicle belongs told police he had “no idea” why he would be targeted, said Green.

“We don’t know if they (the victim) were the target or if this is a case of mistaken car identity. We don’t have any information on motive at all,” he said.

As of Tuesday morning, Police were processing the vehicle struck by the gunshots and attempting to retrieve bullets from the car. Green said it has not yet been confirmed what kind of gun was used in the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Aberdeen Police Department at (360) 533-3180.
