Peacock found with arrow wound treated and released into the wild

A feral peacock that had been shot with an arrow made a full recovery and was released back to its flock after the injured bird was discovered on Monday in the Schafer Meadows area of East County by the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office received the report of the injured peacock on Monday. Animal Control Officer Nichole Pollard responded to and investigated the complaint and discovered the bird was a feral peacock that had been shot with an arrow.

Pollard contacted Dr. Sonnya Crawford of Grays Harbor Veterinary Services for assistance in capturing the peacock to treat the animal’s injuries. Crawford then contacted Dan Varland and Pam McCauley of Coastal Raptors, who set up a remote throw net at a known peafowl feeding sight on March 3.

The peacock was captured and then transported to Grays Harbor Veterinary Services for treatment, where the arrow was removed and the bird’s wound was treated by Dr. Crawford and her staff. The peacock was then given antibiotics and released back to its flock.
