Aberdeen man dead after bar fight

A fight between two men in their 70s at the 40 Et 8 Club in Aberdeen has left one man dead, Aberdeen Police Capt. John Green said Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the 40 Et 8 Club in the 2300 block of Simpson Avenue about 9 Monday night on a report of a fight to find a man on the floor inside the building bleeding from his face. The bartender told police the other man involved in the altercation had left, Green said.

Officers were able to identify the man who left as a 72-year-old Hoquiam man and located him at his home in the 3000 block of Aberdeen Avenue in Hoquiam. He told police he struck the other man, a 71-year-old Aberdeen resident, after the two were arguing about something to do with the City of Kettle Falls, Green said.

The 72-year-old Hoquiam resident told police he was protecting himself.

The victim was treated by the Aberdeen Fire Department and taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital before being transported by Life Flight to a hospital in Olympia. Green said the man was later taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The victim’s name will not be released until police can confirm his family has been notified, said Green. The investigation into the fight is continuing.

The 40 Et 8 Club is a veterans organization. The national organization was formed following World War I.
