Aberdeen man arrested for vehicle theft

Police arrested an Aberdeen man Wednesday morning after he was found driving a vehicle stolen from Aberdeen Honda.

A 1994 White Honda Accord was missing from the dealership Wednesday morning and employees expect it was taken sometime between 4 p.m. and midnight on Tuesday. Aberdeen Police were dispatched near Safeway and State Street after a dealership employee reported seeing the car Wednesday morning around 9 a.m., said Aberdeen Police Corporal Steve Timmons.

An officer saw the vehicle heading eastbound on Heron Street and turned his patrol car lights on, forcing the vehicle to pull over into the Les Schwab parking lot near Jack In The Box. The vehicle was identified by dealership employees as the car that was stolen and the male driving the vehicle, a 30-year-old Aberdeen man, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Timmons said there were two passengers in the car and an investigation is being completed to see if they played a role in the theft.

The car was found with miscellaneous items in the back of the vehicle, and the ignition taken apart or “punched,” according to Timmons. Officers suspect a screwdriver was used to force the ignition to the on position.

Dealership employees retrieved the vehicle and estimate it will cost around $600 to fix the ignition.
