Aberdeen High School principal to retire after 17 years with district

Aberdeen High School Principal Rocky Rocquin will retire at the end of this year after serving the Aberdeen District for 17 years as an administrator, teacher and coach.

Rocquin’s resignation was approved by the school board at this week’s meeting and will be effective on Jun. 30.

“Rocky’s dedicated a number of years to the Aberdeen School District,” said Superintendent Tom Opstad. “We wish him the best as he moves on to other things.”

Rocquin taught science and coached wrestling in Aberdeen before becoming an administrator for the district. He has been the Principal of Aberdeen High School for seven and a half years.

Before coming to Washington, Rocquin worked as an educator and administrator with the Jefferson Parish School District near New Orleans, where he grew up.

“We have a great district that goes the extra step for kids,” Rocquin said reflecting on his time with Aberdeen.

Once retired, Rocquin said he looks forward to traveling with his wife.

Opstad said the district has not yet started searching for a new principal but he hopes to have a job opening posted by next week in order to recruit potential candidates.
