No changes for Aberdeen Safeway and Top Foods stores

Though the Haggen grocery chain has acquired more than 100 Safeway and Albertsons grocery stores in the west, the Aberdeen Safeway store wasn’t one of them and there will be no changes to the Safeway or TOP Foods stores in Aberdeen, a spokeswoman said Monday.

The Bellingham-based company announced in December that it would purchase 146 Safeway and Albertsons stores, expanding from 18 stores throughout Washington to 164 stores across Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. Haggen is also the parent company for TOP Foods.

Deborah Pleva, a spokeswoman for Haggen, said the company’s acquisition did not include the Safeway on West Heron in Aberdeen, and that no changes were planned for the TOP Foods on East Wishkah Street.
