Former County Commissioner candidate injured in logging accident

Keith Olson, a candidate for Grays Harbor County Commissioner in the just-completed elections, broke his leg in two places and was transported to Harborview Medical Center Wednesday after being involved in a logging incident near Neilton, said Olson’s father John.

John Olson said his son’s leg was run over by an excavator while setting chokers for the machine sometime before noon today, breaking his leg below the knee and in the upper thigh area. Keith Olson was transported to Community Hospital after the incident before the decision was made to send him to Harborview.

John Olson said it is likely Keith will be in the hospital for a couple of weeks and will have several operations on his leg. Keith suffered no internal injuries during the accident.

Keith Olson lives in the Lake Quinault area and ran for Grays Harbor County Commissioner in the November elections, losing to Vickie Raines. He also taught and coached at Lake Quinault for nine years and is a veteran of the Marine Corps.
