One man was sent to the hospital with minor burns as a result of a fire Wednesday morning in the 1500 block of Aberdeen Avenue, said Aberdeen Fire Chief Tom Hubbard.
Aberdeen police and firefighters responded to an explosion and fire around 7:45 a.m. this morning. Hubbard said the explosion caused the fire but it is still unknown what caused the explosion in the first place.
“Because the explosion happened before we arrived, we’re in defensive mode,” Hubbard said at the scene Wednesday morning. The whole back of the building has been blown off and the rest of the house is off of its foundation. We don’t know the cause, or how big (the explosion was),” said Hubbard, adding that the house is expected to be a total loss.
One victim was sent to Grays Harbor Community hospital with minor burn injuries, said Hubbard.
The Hoquiam Fire Department was dispatched to the scene with a fire engine and personnel but was cleared from the scene, said Hubbard.
The fire is under investigation at this time.
