Denny’s grand opening set tentatively for January

New management at the Denny’s Restaurant in Aberdeen wanted to open quietly and work up to a grand opening sometime in January. But business has been so brisk that Plan B is now in order.

The restaurant has been opened for business since last Monday as part of its “soft opening,” which serves as a sort of trial run before letting the public know of a grand opening, said Prashant Sharan, who is the Area Manager for 10 Denny’s locations in Washington and three in Hawaii. The past week has served as great practice for the establishment, too, with the restaurant being flooded with customers on its first day.

“We didn’t even announce we were opening and we had a waiting list all day,” said area manager Sharan of Denny’s hectic first day in business. He said that is exactly why the grand opening has been pushed back. Sharan stressed that he doesn’t want to commence the big reveal until all of his employees are ready to do so and everything is in its right place.is tentatively planning to have its grand opening during the second week of January in order to give the eatery time to work out any last kinks before officially opening its doors, according to Area Manager Sharan.

“We haven’t decided on a grand opening yet. We’re still working through some kinks,” he said.

Sharan said that the grand opening will include games and prizes for those who attend, as well as free meals that will be given away to those who come first.

Trying to keep the restaurant’s opening under wraps has been anything but easy with the excitement that rumors of the national chain again appearing in Aberdeen have set off. Sharan said that he would’ve liked the opening week to be a little slower-paced as a way for new workers to adapt. That didn’t happen.

“We wanted to keep it hush, hush because employees are still training, but we have not been able to do that. It’s a small town.

Denny’s will have some new items on their menu for customers who haven’t been to the restaurant since it’s Aberdeen location closed in 2011, including healthier choices as well as entrees that are easier on customers’ wallets. A new deal lets patrons choose from entrees that are either two, four, six, or eight dollars.

“We’ve had great support from the community and everybody is looking forward to having a Denny’s over here,” said Sharan. “We want to put our best foot forward.”
