Stephens Media has named Sean McDonald as interim publisher of The Daily World, Montesano Vidette, South Beach Bulletin and the North Coast News.
McDonald, a veteran of the newspaper industry, takes over for Bill Crawford, who is returning to Hawaii where he worked before coming to Grays Harbor.
Before joining the World, McDonald, 43, was publisher of three weekly newspapers on the Kitsap Peninsula, — the Port Orchard Independent, Bremerton Patriot and Central Kitsap Reporter, all owned by Sound Publishing. Prior to that he was publisher of the Sentinel &Enterprise in Fitchburg, Mass., and Vice President/Advertising at the Lowell (Mass.) Sun, and before that he was advertising director at the Peninsula Daily News in Port Angeles.
McDonald’s first day on the job was Monday. He has a strong background in advertising and has worked at newspapers since he was in college.
“I am very pleased to join the staff and operation here at the World and our affiliate newspapers serving the Twin Harbors,” McDonald said. “My family and I have been visiting this area for many years so it’s nice to be in a group of communities that are somewhat familiar, however, I am truly looking forward to getting to know the area much more closely in the coming months. These newspapers have such a rich history of serving this area and I am excited to work to improve upon an already successful organization and to work with our local business community to help them grow and prosper.”
McDonald’s wife, Victoria, currently works as the member services manager for the North Mason (County) Chamber of Commerce in Belfair. They have two children, Isabella, 20, and Quinn, 25, and two grandchildren, Jack and Andrew.
