Aberdeen teen charged in shooting

An Aberdeen teen has been charged with assaults in a shooting at the TraveLure Motel just days before his 18th birthday.

Brandon J. Roberts, 18, pleaded not guilty Monday in Grays Harbor County Superior Court to two counts of second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He’s accused of shooting one man and shooting at another in the parking lot of the TraveLure May 2. One of the victims said he was staying at the motel when he saw three men “beating up on” his nephew and went outside to confront them, court documents state. Another motel guest was also coming out to intervene when witnesses say Roberts began shooting a .45-caliber pistol. Five rounds were recovered from around the motel, one of which struck the first man.

The nephew told police he had been confronted by three men in an alley across the street, and they began to fight. He saw one start to load a pistol then ran toward the motel where he knew his uncle was staying. He told police the men claimed to be gang members.

Roberts was found about three blocks from the scene with a recently fired .45-caliber pistol. He’s held in Grays Harbor County Jail with $250,000 bail.
