An Elma woman plead not guilty to malicious mischief in the second degree on Monday after she allegedly caused an estimated $2,644.96 in damage to five vehicle windows after being kicked out of the Elma Eagles Club in November.
On Nov. 16, 2014, Elma Police were dispatched to a report of a disorderly subject at the Eagles club in Elma, according to court documents. The reporting party told police that Betty L. Cooper, 55, had been kicked out of the club and was now outside beating on the building. Several subjects said Cooper had broken windows on three vehicles.
Police found three vehicles with damage to their windows, all parked on the west side of the 200 block of north Fourth Street. A 2012 Honda Fit and 1989 Ford Mustang had substantial damage to their windshields and a 2004 Ford Taurus had its whole window broken out by a rock found inside the vehicle.
Beck and other officers searched the area for Cooper without success and then left.
Roughly an hour later, police were again dispatched to the Eagles after it was reported that Cooper had returned and broke out two additional vehicle windows. A 2014 F150 had damage to the windshield, driver side window and hood of the vehicle, while a brick was lying on the ground behind the truck. The other vehicle was a black Hyundai Tucson that had a broken windshield and sustained substantial damage. Another brick was found near this vehicle.
The defendant was ultimately located at 109 W. Martin St. in Elma and appeared to be slightly under the influence, according to court documents. When police told her she was under arrest she became upset, allegedly admitting being outside the Eagles building but denying doing damage to any of the vehicles.
