A woman is in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries after rolling her vehicle in Hoquiam early Sunday morning, according to a statement from the city’s police department. The woman had been driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police.
Hoquiam officers responded to a 911 call from a railroad worker at about 2 a.m. on Sunday in the 2900 block of Bay Avenue. The caller told police the car had been traveling more than 100 miles an hour before flipping five to six times. Officers found the vehicle, a Ford Explorer, in gravel near the railroad tracks about 100 feet from 30th Street.
The driver of the vehicle had been apparently ejected in the rollover, and was pinned underneath the car’s rear axle. She was unresponsive, and officers found an open alcohol container inside the car. Police identified the woman using photos and tattoo information on file.
Firefighters and paramedics used emergency airbags to lift the vehicle off of the woman. She was immediately taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital before being transferred to Harborview Medical Center, according to police.
The woman has been arrested for driving under the influence, and a warrant from Hoquiam Municipal Court will allow for a legal blood draw at the hospital.
Officers on Monday mapped the scene of the collision for further investigation.
