“Let’s do this.”

It just goes to prove that sometimes the littlest helpers can be super powers and that many hands make light work.

Small in stature, but mighty in force, the Girl Scout Troop 40949 turned out in full force to help remove rubbish from the homes of last week’s flood victims along the Harbor.

The Girl Scouts were not the only ones making an effort. More than 300 volunteers showed up at Olympic Stadium Saturday morning to offer assistance. Among the helping groups were the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Home Depot, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, Red Cross and Hometown Sanitation.

Sarah Layng, Boy Scout Leader and parent, helped direct the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts on Saturday. “The Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts all jumped in and worked as hard as they could, “ she said.

“It was fun to see the community come out. As a person, I didn’t realize how much was needed to be cleaned up,” she said.

Girl Scout Co-leader, Cinnamon Chesterman reached out to her troop after it was suggested on Facebook, by one of her girls, that they help the community with the cleanup. After sending out an email to the troop, she had overwhelming support of the idea. “Every parent was like, ‘yes, let’s do this.’

“One of our girl’s entire house was damaged and (the girls) wanted the community to know that they are here and that they care about them.” she said.
