“Harbor Strong” cleanup Saturday at 9 a.m.

Anyone who wants to help flood victims will have a chance to volunteer on Saturday.

The “Harbor Strong” flood relief walk and cleanup effort will use Domino’s Pizza in Hoquiam as a meeting place Saturday morning before going out to help those who need it. Meeting time is 9 a.m. and volunteers will be helping affected residents move debris and trash until 3 p.m.

The cleanup has been organized almost completely through Facebook, with an event created on the site on Wednesday.

The cleanup aims to help those hit hardest by this week’s flooding and mudslides and roughly 150 volunteers have already signed up, said event coordinator Jackie Jamieson.

Volunteers will help with garbage and debris cleanup as well as remove furniture and other damaged items from houses of residents who contacted Jamieson saying they needed help. So far, Jamieson said around 25 residents have contacted her.

Volunteers can sign up for the event by visiting its Facebook page or simply showing up on Saturday morning and should bring gloves, rubber boots and garbage bags for safe clean up. Jamieson said any type of cleaning supplies will help, adding that bringing trucks and trailers to haul garbage would be greatly appreciated.

Various local businesses have volunteered to help out with the cleanup. Starbucks will be providing coffee in the morning and Domino’s will serve lunch for volunteers.

A relief fund has been set up through Grays Harbor Foursquare Church and anyone who cannot attend the cleanup can make monetary donations at ghfoursquare.com, said Jamieson. Donations can also be made to a relief fund established by United Way at any Anchor Bank location or Great Northwestern Federal Credit Union.

Volunteers are asked to wear red to the event.
