Skull found in crab pot not connected to Baum case

When a commercial fisherman found a partial human skull in a crab pot in February, there was speculation that it might be that of Lindsey Baum, a missing girl from McCleary.

The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office said today that an analysis of DNA determined that it did not match that of the missing girl.

The skull was found about three miles offshore and southwest of of Grays Harbor and was eventually turned over to the FBI for analysis.

The DNA profile was entered into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System, but no matches were found. The DNA profile indicates that the skull was that of a female, but it is unknown at this time how old the skull is. The reports from FBI are expected within the next few weeks.

The speculation about Baum was fueled by persistent rumors over the past several years that she was killed and her body was placed in a crab pot.
