A man may have been shot during a burglary attempted this afternoon before fleeing in a truck with a pregnant woman and another woman, the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office said.
The homeowner interrupted an attempted burglary at about 2:10 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Monte Brady Road outside Montesano, Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate wrote in press release.
The victim was in the back part of the home when he heard noises coming from the front. He found a man he didn’t know and tried to keep the suspect there with a firearm he was carrying at the time. The suspect attacked the homeowner, the gun went off and the suspect was able to take the gun away.
The suspect fled in a dark blue, late ’80s to early ’90s two-wheel drive import pickup, Shumate reported, possibly a Mazda, with a canopy with no side windows.
The suspect is described as about six feet tall, 200 pounds, in his early to mid-20s with a few days’ beard growth. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and a ball cap.
One woman in the truck is described as in her late teens to early 20s, four to five months pregnant. No description was available for the second woman.
Shumate said it is unknown whether the man was injured from the gunshot. The homeowner received only minor injuries and didn’t need aid.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators are still on scene trying to develop more information. Anyone with information should call the Grays Harbor Dispatch Center at 360-533-8765 or the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit at 360-964-1731.
