Hoquiam School Board member Dave Westby will resign from his position as both a member and as the board Chairman. The board is expected to vote whether to approve the resignation at its meeting Thursday evening.
Westby emailed Hoquiam School District Mike Parker Feb. 21 to say he would be resigning, effective immediately.
He cited increased personal business responsibilities and increased responsibilities for board members due to a strategic planning process as reason.
“… It is apparent I am not able at this time to make that additional investment,” he wrote. “I can appreciate the need for board members to invest more time to be in better touch with the district and its needs.”
Parker said he called Westby to verify his desire to resign, and he “stuck to his guns.’
“Dave’s service to the board, the district and its students and staff was profound,” said Parker. “His commitment to the job and office will be genuinely missed.”
If the board accepts Westby’s resignation, the board will promote Chris Eide to Chairman and elect a Vice Chairman, said Parker. The board will seek applications from qualified persons seeking to fill the position, then publicly interview the candidates and vote on replacement.
