Auction of Barefoot Bandit paraphernalia to benefit animals

The Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals (HAVA) will put a note written by Colton Harris-Moore, known as the Barefoot Bandit, among other paraphernalia up for auction on eBay today through next Saturday, March 15. The starting bid is $500.

On May 31, 2010, Harris-Moore, then a fugitive, was driving through Raymond when he stopped at Vetter’s Animal Hospital and left $100 and this note:

“Drove by, had some extra cash. Please use this money for the care of animals.”

Tammy Foust-Stutes, an employee at Vetter’s, arrived soon after Harris-Moore left the note and quickly called the local police. It would be many months later that he was finally captured.

Harris-Moore eluded authorities for some time, stealing several expensive cars, planes and boats across the country, ending up in the Bahamas. He will turn 23 on March 22 and is currently serving time for the crime spree.

Dr. Gina Lewis of Vetter’s donated several items related to the case to HAVA. Dee Roberts, president, had them put together in a large framed piece which includes the money, photocopies of the Barefoot Bandit’s note, the police incident report, the property in custody report, the evidence bag and the State Patrol Crime Lab Report that confirmed that the fingerprints found on the note belonged to Harris-Moore.

HAVA is a non-profit, all volunteer animal welfare group and the purchase is tax deductible.
