Benefit auction, dinner for Aberdeen officer

The Aberdeen Police Officers Guild, in cooperation with the Aberdeen Police Department, will sponsor a benefit auction and spaghetti dinner April 5 for Corporal Bret Ellis to help cover expenses related to his cancer treatments.

Doctors discovered cancer during a surgical procedure last year, and Ellis endured six months of chemotherapy, according to a press release. During another surgery this year, doctors found the cancer had returned. He’s expected to start his second round of chemotherapy in two weeks.

Ellis is a 19-year veteran of the Aberdeen Police Department, a Navy veteran and a graduate of Aberdeen High School. He is the son of former Aberdeen Police Chief Bill Ellis, and lives with his wife, former Aberdeen officer Becky Ellis, and their two children, ages 11 and 9.

The benefit will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 5, in the Aberdeen High commons at 410 North G St. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Donations may be made at any Twin Star Credit Union branch in the name of “Aberdeen Police Guild,” or be mailed to Aberdeen Police Officers Guild, P.O. Box 2124, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up to accept donations at http://ift.tt/1g4hJLf. As of March 25, $1,000 had been raised.
