Many Grays Harbor residents broke out the sunscreen and the Popsicles Tuesday, with the region reaching record-setting temperatures. Hoquiam reached 89 degrees, tying the July 1 temperature record set in 1967, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will be considerably cooler for the rest of the week, said meteorologist Johnny Burg. He said meteorologists predict highs in the mid-60s for the Fourth of July and showers late in the evening.
Other areas of Washington also tied or broke July 1 records Wednesday. Quileute reached 91 degrees, tying a record set in 1967. Olympia reached 94 degrees, breaking the record of 88 degrees set last year. SeaTac also broke last year’s record, reaching 94 degrees. Belligham reached 84 degrees, breaking a 1968 record of 83 degrees.
