Stopping a bicycle breaking traffic laws led an Aberdeen Police Department officer to find heroin on the man’s ID and hands.
Capt. John Green said Officer Chris Rathbun saw a 41-year-old Aberdeen man riding a bicycle against traffic laws near Wishkah and Jefferson streets at about 2:40 p.m. Monday.
Rathbun stopped the man and asked for identification.
“When the rider produced his ID the officer noticed he was holding it upside down,” Green said. “When the officer tried to take a hold of it the subject tried to pull it back. When the officer was able to see it he saw a wad of brown tar-type substance stuck on the front of the ID. It appeared to be black tar heroin to the officer.”
Rathbun arrested the man, and in the process noticed more brown residue on the man’s fingernails. He asked the man to open his hands.
“When the suspect did so the officer discovered a chunk of a brown tar-type substance from his left and right hands,” Green said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin and a dangerous weapon and booked into the City of Aberdeen Jail. He had a butterfly knife at the time of his arrest.
