Hoquiam man lures woman into attempted murder plot, authorities say

An Aberdeen woman was brutally beaten and stabbed Tuesday night after the brother of her child’s father told her he had “a surprise for her,” Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Dave Pimentel said.

The 22-year-old woman and her friend, a 48-year-old Aberdeen woman, picked up the 19-year-old man in Hoquiam, then drove out on Highway 109 north of Grays Harbor City at about 10:15 p.m.

Once they were well out into the country, Pimentel said, the man started attacking the 22-year-old.

“She was able to get out of the vehicle — the 48-year-old was driving — and she was able to escape from the vehicle when he was assaulting her. He got out of the vehicle and ran her down, and that’s when he started stabbing her,” Pimentel said.

The woman’s friend was able to drive a little way from the attack and find cell service to call for help. Deputies Jason Wecker and Dan Wells found the man near the scene of the attack.

“The witness corroborated everything the victim told us took place, and the suspect admitted to detectives he was attempting to kill her,” Pimentel said, apparently to keep her away from the child.

The woman was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with a collapsed lung, Pimentel said. Information on her condition was not available Wednesday morning.

The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and is held in Grays Harbor County Jail.

Anyone with any information about the attack is asked to call Detective Sgt. Brad Johansson at 360-249-3711.
