Quinault fisherman Greg Lewis spent last Wednesday afternoon gillnetting for blueback sockeye salmon at the mouth of the Quinault River in Taholah before pulling in his nets for a few days during Chief Taholah Days. “This sockeye season was the best sockeye season I’ve had since I started fishing,” said Lewis, who started fishing four years ago after having his first of two children. Lewis is the primary fisherman for four fishing grounds near the mouth of the Quinault and splits his profits with the owners of the fishing grounds. Some days can be slow but Lewis said that on busy days, he can fill his boat up with thousands of dollars worth of fish.
