A weekend of 4th of July, Tribal events


Fireworks, food, parades, sailing aboard tall ships and family fun are among the Independence Day celebrations around Grays Harbor. The Quinaults will also celebrate their 1855 treaty with Taholah Days.


Here is a list of events that mark the holiday weekend:


ABERDEEN, July 4


The urban center of Grays Harbor County features two celebrations on Friday. One is the city’s iconic Five Star Dealerships Splash festival at Morrison Riverfront Park and the other is the Sail-a-bration across the Chehalis River at Seaport Landing in South Aberdeen.


Splash features loads of family fun, rock and country bands, plus a fireworks show. The stars of the show on the southern side are the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.


Both activities begin around noon and continue into the evening.


Splash


The reserved parking area is closed to the public in Morrison Park until 7:30 p.m. Parking for the handicapped is available at the east entrance to Top Foods.


Noon — Local arts &craft booths and food vendors open.


12-5 p.m. — Interactive games include a rock wall, dual lane slide, an obstacle course and an under the sea inflatable.


In the Rotary Log Pavilion:


12:30 p.m. — Curt Carlyle, “seriously funny juggling”


2:15 p.m. — Magician Jeff Evans


3:45 p.m. — Son of the Reptile Man


On the Five Star Stage:


12:30 p.m. — Roadhouse


2:15 p.m. — Joe Ty


3:15 p.m. — Celebrity DJ contest


4 p.m. — Twisted Dixie


Though some vendors hang around, the city will encourage people to head across the river to enjoy the fireworks from Seaport Landing at the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority.


Fireworks start at full dark, or 10 p.m.


Sail-a-bration


Seaport Landing will open at noon for activities. Parking is available on site. A $5 donation per car is appreciated.


Noon — Gates open at Seaport Landing; cannon fire on the hour until the fireworks start


3 - 6 p.m — walk-on tours of the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain


3 - 7 p.m — Music by local bands Gebular, Razors and Red Flags


7 - 9 p.m — Rods on the River classic car display


9 - 11:30 p.m — Fireworks sail aboard the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.


The fireworks are across the Chehalis River for the city’s Splash Festival. They can be watched from the pier for free.

The tall ships are docked at Seaport Landing on the authority’s property at 500 N. Custer St. in South Aberdeen.


HOQUIAM, July 3, 5 &6


Hoquiam is encouraging people to buy products Made in America at First Thursday evening, will hold a push rod show on Saturday and have a Fun Run on Sunday.


Downtown, July 3


Buy on the Harbor and Made in America on Thursday is sponsored by the Hoquiam Business Association.


8th Street and Levee, July 5


9 a.m.- 3 p.m. — Push rods on display on Saturday. There is a fee if you want to enter a car.


8th Street and Levee, July 6


Fun Run registration is at 9 a.m. and starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The fee is $15 with a shirt and $5 without a shirt.


OAKVILLE, July 5


“Celebrating Oakville Past, Present and Future” features a parade, food, art, crafts and vendors. The aim is to have an old-fashioned celebration after the parade which has taken the place of the re-enactment of the last horseback robbery in the state, which was discontinued.


11 a.m. — Parade along Highway 12


Festivities to follow — Live music, a beer garden, car show, petting zoo, pony rides and dunk tank.

OCEAN SHORES, July 4 &5

The city and Ocean Shores Action Committee on Tourism are having an all-day town picnic and celebration with entertainment, games, food and vendors, the North Coast News says.


Farmer’s Market


Mayor Crystal Dingler reminds that the market is open both days and has live music.


Quinault Beach Resort &Casino, 78 State Route 115


A professional fireworks show on the beach begins at dusk, reports Judy Ask, sales and marketing manager. Parking is “where ever you can find it.” Early arrival is recommended.


TAHOLAH, Quinault Indian Nation, July 3-6


Chief Taholah Days is the annual commemoration of the tribe’s 1855 treaty held in the first week of July. There is a parade, baseball, canoe races, a salmon bake, fireworks and more. Many events overlap. Parade, talent show and boxing contestants are needed. TOKELAND, July 4 &5


Shoalwater Bay Casino, July 4


For the eighth year in a row, the casino will host a professional fireworks show and hand out free hot dogs starting at 6:30 p.m. The display starts at 10:15 p.m. Marketing Manager Todd Arend notes that only those 21 and older are allowed in the casino. There is a convenience store and the new Sand Verbena restaurant across the road. Since as many as 4,500 people show up for the show, parking will be tight at State Route 105 and Tokeland Road, so he recommends showing up early.


Tokeland Marina &Tokeland Hotel, July 5


Traditionally held the Saturday closest to the 4th of July, this Independence Day community parade now attracts more than 200 entrants. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at the Tokeland Marina. A picnic lunch follows at the hotel and is free for parade participants. Games are held for children.


WESTPORT, July 4-5

The Booming Bay Fireworks Display begins at dusk.


Maritime Museum, 2201 W. Westhaven Dr., July 4-5


An old-fashioned 4th of July family celebration, with games for prizes, food, clowns, a plant and bake sale, face painting, a cakewalk and a silent auction will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
