Long Beach shooter contained

A man who allegedly shot another man in the leg and made threats to law enforcement before barricading himself in his trailer has apparently shot himself.

Pacific County Sheriff’s Office Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Matlock said the man allegedly fired shots in the trailer park in the 1300 block of North Pacific Avenue, shooting another man in the leg.

He barricaded himself inside his trailer, where he threatened law enforcement before the trailer apparently caught fire.

“We believe he probably set the trailer on fire,” Matlock said. The exact cause is unknown.

He then came out of the trailer carrying a firearm before shooting himself, Matlock said. There was no early indication of any shots being fired by law enforcement.

Some reports were received of other shots being fired before the man took his own life, and it is not yet clear whether those were fired by the man or were actually items exploding inside the burning trailer.

The Long Beach Fire Department and Pacific County Fire District 1 are on scene containing the fire. After that, Matlock said, the investigation will begin on what may have caused the man to open fire.

The Long Beach Police Department responded with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office, the Raymond Police Department, state Fish and Wildlife officers and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
