Two Aberdeen men arrested after displaying gun in front of law officer

Two Aberdeen residents were taken into custody Thursday for brandishing a firearm in front of a law enforcement officer while in their car, said Aberdeen Police Sgt. Art Laur.

Aberdeen police were called to the area of Market and F Streets around 12:30 p.m. Laur said an off-duty deputy from a neighboring law enforcement agency had been driving his vehicle when he was approached by a green, Suburban style vehicle. The vehicle’s occupants began making hand gestures at the off-duty officer and then displayed a firearm before driving away. About 20 minutes later, the Suburban style vehicle was observed in the area of Market and I Streets. Aberdeen officers were assisted by members of the Hoquiam Police Department and Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office in detaining the four occupants of the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Laur said two Aberdeen men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested and transported to the Aberdeen Police Department. The two could face charges of unlawful display of a weapon and obstructing a law enforcement officer. Their vehicle was seized pending the execution of a search warrant. Laur said it is believed that this was a random act and the persons arrested were not aware of the victim’s employment.
