Hirschfeld named Aberdeen Teacher of the Year

Katie Hirschfeld was selected as Aberdeen Teacher of the year at Tuesday night’s Aberdeen School Board meeting.

Hirschfeld, who has taught English Language Arts at Harbor High School since 1995, was nominated by community members and selected by former recipients of the award.

“It’s well-earned,” said Harbor High Principal Derek Cook of Hirschfeld’s recognition. “(She) is truly passionate about what she does.”

Hirschfeld accepted the award in tears on Tuesday night and said she was honored to be recognized in a district with so many passionate teachers and students.

“I’m humbled,” she said.

Hirschfeld is also a nominee for the Educational Service District Teacher of the Year Award. The winner will be announced later this spring.
