Quinaults move forward to purchase Ramada

The Quinault Indian Nation is moving forward to purchase the Ramada Inn in Ocean Shores.

The purchase was announced in a news release and a published report in the October edition of the tribal newspaper, The Nugguam.

The report by James Stanley, Chairman of the Quinault Nation Enterprise Board, said the Quinault Nation Business Committee had directed the Enterprise Board to finalize the transaction for the hotel on Ocean Shores Boulevard after completing its “due diligence and based on value and return on investment.”

After a third-party inspection, the hotel was found in good physical condition, and the price and payment terms “allow the enterprise to be cash-flow positive from the start,” according to the report.

Currently, the Ramada is owned by the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community of the LaConner area, which also owns and operates the North Shore Grill at the hotel.

Purchasing the Ramada, the report noted, comes at a time when the Quinault Beach Resort & Casino is completing a hotel refurbishment on the second and third floors, forcing it to close about 50 of its guestrooms while renovations are being made.

The Ramada has 54 rooms that “will allow the enterprise to maintain revenue levels that we previously expected to decline by about $1 million” at the resort and casino.

“The Quinault Nation is committed to investing in the local community,” said Quinault President Fawn Sharp. “Quinault is happy to be the largest employer in Grays Harbor County and a vital part of the overall economy. We are committed to maintaining and expanding our support for tribal and non-tribal communities with environmentally sensitive and sustainable investments. We intend to continue diversifying our enterprises and constantly improving our ability to serve our people, despite cutbacks in federal budgets. We thank the Swinomish Tribe for its honor and consideration in moving toward our purchase of this beautiful hotel and we look forward to accommodating many guests and events there for many years to come.”

Also in the Nugguam was the beginning of a naming contest for the Ramada, which will likely have its name changed once the sale if completed. No details of the sale were available as of Thursday, and phone requests for more information were declined. The winning choice for a new name wins a night at either the Quinault Beach Resort or the newly named hotel, along with dinner at Emily’s Restaurant at QBR&C.
