Judge Stephen Brown appointed to replace retiring Godfrey

Gov. Jay Inslee announced today that he is appointing Judge Stephen Brown to Grays Harbor Superior Court to replace the retiring Judge Gordon Godfrey, who served for more than 22 years, according to a Governor’s Office press release.

Brown, who has served as a District Court judge since 1986, was picked over Elma attorney Jean Cotton and Olympia lawyer Karen Kay, who grew up in Aberdeen.

“Judge Brown has an incredible record of service to Grays Harbor and a reputation for being a highly-capable and independent judge,” Inslee said. “I’m confident he’ll serve in this new role with the same drive and dedication that he’s shown during the past 30 years.”

Brown is a graduate of Elma High School, Stanford University, and earned his law degree at the University of Washington. He volunteers with the Elma McCleary Lions Club and is president of the Elma McCleary Youth Soccer Association. His term begins in this month.
