Loggers Playday celebrates half a century this Saturday with the classic logging show and competition.
Playday buttons, which serve as tickets to the show, are on sale at stores, restaurants and other businesses around the Harbor. A $3 button grants admission to the show, while purchase of a $5 button will grant admission and contribute money to the Dave Rabey scholarship fund.
The day’s festivities begin with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Hoquiam Rotary Club at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church. Truck driving events and the binder throw competition start at 8 a.m., and the annual Reynvaan Memorial Run, a tribute to former Playday chairman Jack Reynvaan, kicks off in downtown Hoquiam at 9 a.m.
The Elks Grand Parade starts at noon, travelling down 8th Street and K Street. A late lunch or early dinner is offered at Washington School with the Lions Club Salmon Bake at 2 p.m.
The 50th Annual Loggers Playday show and competition starts at 6 p.m. at Hoquiam’s historic Olympic Stadium. The festivities will conclude with a fireworks show.
And, the night will conclude with a 9 p.m. dance at the Hoquiam Elks with music by Ready or Not. A $5 button covers admission to the dance, as well.
