6th Annual Grayland Open Nationals Jet Ski Competition this weekend

The 6th Annual Grayland Open Amateur FreeRide Nationals Jet Ski Competition will be staged on the Grayland beach this Saturday, Aug. 9, and Sunday, Aug. 10, starting at 10 a.m. each day. The event will take place at the end of the Grayland Beach approach road.

This is an event for competitors riding stand-up and sit-down watercraft in the surf in a flagged section of ocean. Some of the top riders in the world will perform amazing aerial maneuvers, including back flips, barrel rolls, precision surf riding and motosurf racing.

All spectators are welcome free of charge. Turn west at the old red school house building and be sure to park on the uppermost wet sand.

There will be food available for purchase. Music will be playing and custom-designed event t-shirts and sweatshirts, as well as posters, will also be for sale at the main booth while supplies last. There will also be a raffle for various goodies.

Krash Nationals Round 1

For the first time, this event will be Round 1 of 3 rounds of the U.S. Krash Nationals Freeride tour. Competitors have a chance to be crowned West Coast National champion or to rack up points on the overall national championships.

Divisions

Divisions include a Masters Class for riders 35 and older, a Rookie Class for beginners, an Amateur Class – the Grayland Open main event for both surf and air competitions — a Pro Class for hardcore experienced riders and a Runabout Class for those attempting to earn Krash U.S. National Tour points.

Saturday will feature the surf and aerial competition from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Surf and aerial finals will be held on Sunday along with motosurf racing from 10 a.m. until about 4 p.m.

Awards will be given to 1st through 4th place in both sit-down and standup classes. Additional special awards will be given for the Sickest Trick, Gnarliest Wipeout, Broken Ski and for the Pro Jam.

Pro Jam

After the competition is done, the top eight riders as decided by the judges will have a 15 minute heat together to go as big and crazy as they can to win over the judges and be crowned King of the Pro Jam.
